Suzanne Vega at WFUV

Prior to becoming the famed singer-songwriter that gave us "Tom’s Diner", and, "Luka", Suzanne Vega’s interests were primarily drama and literature. Those two interests intersected while in college, when she first wrote a version of a play about her favorite author, Carson McCullers.

Over the years, she always intended to refine and expand on her concept, and recently teamed with Tony-award-winning songwriter, Duncan Sheik, to write songs to accompany a second version of her play, a one woman show. Now in its third iteration, Lover Beloved: Songs From An Evening With Carson McCullers, is both the new version of the play, as well as Suzanne Vega’s ninth album.

She recently stopped by Studio A to play us a couple of the songs, and tell us more about the project.
