Lindsey Jordan—the artist behind Snail Mail— came by Studio A to talk about and perform a solo set from Ricochet, her third album. (Snail Mail was last at FUV in 2018.)
Ricochet is Jordan's most clear and confident work yet—an album centered on realizing and embracing who you are. The songs delve into introspection and anxiety while arriving at a sense of acceptance, signaling a move beyond her earlier romance-centered themes toward deeper reflections on mortality and nostalgia.
“Misery feels safe to write about because I am good at it,” she shared, “but I’m not bathing in my own agony anymore.”
Jordan also explained her new creative process of writing all of the instrumentals and vocal melodies on the piano or guitar first and then filling in the lyrics. During our conversation, she explained how this change allowed her to shape the expansive melodies that define the album’s sound. For this session, she performed "Dead End," "Tractor Beam," and "My Maker," offering an intimate glimpse into this new chapter of her artistry.
