Something for Everybody is the debut album from New York's own Sammy Rae & The Friends. The Brooklyn septet made the trek uptown to the Bronx to talk about and play songs from the new record and they brought the whole crew: Samantha Bowers (vocals and bandleader), C-Bass Chiriboga (drums, vocals), Max Zooi (tenor sax), Will Leet (guitar, vocals), Debbie Tjong (keys, guitar, vocals), James Quinlan (bass, vocals), and Kellon Anderson (alto sax).
The sounds of saxophones, guitars, keyboards and percussion spilled out of our little space and filled the entire station with fun, convivial vibes. The band's positive energy was a breath of fresh air, as were their songs: "Thieves," "No Rulebook," and "Coming Home Song."
In my interview with Bowers, she explained that she considers her band a family — and the audience as friends, rather than just fans.
