The first time I listened to Sam Kogon's rockabilly banger "Barbed Wire," it was like unearthing a hidden gem. The song, from Kogon's self-titled EP, was a revelation that I couldn't wait to play on the radio.

After digging deeper into Kogon's catalog, which includes two great albums, Psychic Tears and Before You Knew Me,  I realized that this urban cowboy was no one-trick pony. A cosmic crooner, Kogon is an exceptionally talented musician with a real talent for creating melodies that get stuck in your head — and fans of classic '60s and '70s power pop will love his music.

FUV was happen to welcome Sam and his bandmates — Eabha Francis (guitar), Graeme Gengras (keys), James Preston (bass, backing vocals) and Grennan Milliken (drums) — to Studio A for a "NY Slice" live session and pop quiz. Sam performed his new single "America," and that song that made me happy from the start, "Barbed Wire."
