Rett Madison: The Bitter End 2024
[Ed. note: The post and songs below touch upon suicide. If you are in crisis and need immediate help, please call 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.]
Rett Madison's latest album, One For Jackie, came out last year and followed a harrowing, traumatic time in the Los Angeles musician's life — the death of her mother in 2019. Said Madison, an only child, upon the release of the album: "I made this album in memory of my mother and to honor my own grief. I hope these songs will provide a moment of catharsis for anyone that’s lost a loved one, especially those of us that have lost someone to suicide.”
Little wonder that Madison's FUV Live set at The Bitter End for Marquee Members earlier this year, with songs drawn from that album, was particularly powerful. The West Virginia-born singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist's songs, including the single "Flea Market," were infused with excruciating candor and elegiac tides of sorrow.
