New York City's transit system shapes daily life for millions. In her new book Movement: New York's Long War to Take Back Its Streets from the Car, transportation journalist Nicole Gelinas examines how America's largest city has grappled with the tensions between cars and public transit since the 1960s.

In the backdrop of congestion pricing's indefinite pause, WFUV's Andrew McDonald speaks with Gelinas about her book and why political support for New York transit often remains uncertain, even today.

Movement: New York's Long War to Take Back Its Streets from the Car comes out on November 5th, 2024.
