Nathaniel Rateliff wasn't new to the music industry when he and the Night Sweats released their self-titled debut in 2015 — he'd already helmed a couple of bands and released his own solo records. But Rateliff & the Night Sweats' first album, propelled by the single "S.O.B.," was an electrifying introduction and a visionary achievement.  During the non-stop touring that followed, Rateliff and the band released Live at Red Rocks and somehow squeezed in some time to write and make a second studio album.

Called Tearing at the Seams, it finds Rateliff upping his game as a writer with the band's live energy channeled into some studio exploration too. I had a chance to talk with Rateliff and bassist Joseph Pope III about the process, and we also got a taste of it live when the whole band took over Studio A to treat us to a few of the new tunes.
