King Tuff

King Tuff’s third album is called Black Moon Spell, and frontman Kyle Thomas has confirmed that it contains backwards messages. Sonically, this album sees Kyle (a.k.a. King Tuff) moving more solidly into '70s rock territory, at times channeling Marc Bolan and even a touch of early Black Sabbath.

Signed to Sub Pop records while still living at home in the sleepy town of Brattleboro, Vermont, Kyle and his bandmates (dubbed Old Gary and Magic Jake) definitely don’t take themselves too seriously, and King Tuff’s lighthearted approach to seriously heavy guitar riffs makes the songs of Black Moon Spell a truly enjoyable, rock-your-face-off-like-you’re-a-teenager experience.

The album was recorded in Los Angeles (King Tuff’s adopted home), fueled by Taco Bell and sandwiches, and is sure to cast a spell on you, as we witnessed when the band paid a visit to Studio A.
