Although this Australian seven-piece band only formed five years ago, their creative output has been prolific, yielding seven albums and two EPs worth of material in that short time. Frontman Stu Mackenzie has said that he always wanted to be in a band where you would expect the unexpected each time, with each album being treated like a different phase. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard have accomplished just that.

Their albums have explored psychedelia, spaghetti western flavors, garage rock and more. Their latest album, Paper Maché Dream Balloon, sees the band going acoustic with a more mellow and pastoral vibe than we’ve heard from them in the past.

The band recently stopped by WFUV to talk about and play us some of their music and we’ll hear that performance and conversation during this episode of FUV Live.
