Certain musicians are core to the heart of post-2000 FUV — and Kathleen Edwards effortlessly falls into that category. She first visited the radio station in 2008 and over the past 17 years — and multiple sessions, concerts, and conversations — FUV has been privy to the many chapters of the Ontario songwriter's recording life. Following her return in 2020 with Total Freedom, after a hiatus of of eight years to imagine an alternate life and open a café back home, Kathleen has continued to release music, including a new Covers album, now available on vinyl, in which she brings her magic to songs by Paul Westerberg, Bruce Springsteen, Jason Isbell and other fellow musicians.
And there's more regarding Isbell too. Last August, Edwards dropped on X that she was heading to Nashville to record a new album with Jason producing.
In a special event for FUV at City Winery in December, Edwards, joined by Matt Sucich on guitar and backing vocals, played a set of songs that encompassed the scope of her career to date. Watch videos of "Glenfern," from Total Freedom, and "6 O'Clock News," from her 2002 debut album, Failer.
