Not long after the release of his debut album, Act 1, Kashus Culpepper brought his serious Alabama-nurtured country chops to The Bitter End for an FUV Live concert.
"Creating music has been the greatest joy of my life," writes Culpepper on socials, and his songs, like the love-crushed "Cherry Rose" and the Greyhound-bound "Alabama Beauty Queen," showcase his gritty, soulful vocals and down-to-earth lyrics on the roller coaster ride of romance.
Culpepper, a Navy veteran originally from Alexander City outside of Montgomery, started playing the guitar during the pandemic, while on deployment Spain, to entertain himself and his fellow sailors. Just five years later, and Culpepper is entertaining thousands, touring with the likes of Leon Bridges, Wyatt Flores, and Charley Crockett with an appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" earlier this year.
For this live set at The Bitter End, Culpepper was joined by Bridger Fruth on pedal steel guitar and Diego Uriaus on piano for songs that included "Alabama Beauty Queen," "Man of His Word," and "Out of My Mind," the latter which incorporates the great Bill Withers' "Ain't No Sunshine."
