The music of José James is steeped in jazz but delivered with a modern R&B vibe. An accomplished singer, James's incredibly versatile voice has been growing richer throughout his career.

His first album, The Dreamer, released about a decade ago, earned critical accolades and placed him on prestigious stages all over the world. He's also paid tribute to several of his musical heroes including John Coltrane and Billie Holiday. James's latest album, Lean On Me, pays homage to another inspiration, Bill Withers.

During this episode of FUV Live, I'll talk with James about the challenges and joys of putting this record together. He also plays us a few of his favorite Withers songs, like "Grandma’s Hands," "Use Me," and "Ain’t No Sunshine."
