Joan Shelley: 2017
It’s easy to lose sight of the power of simplicity. In music, laying bare the song with minimal adornment feels somehow like a radical choice, given the mass availability of technology, and the competitive challenge of being heard.
The Louisville-based singer and songwriter Joan Shelley, who grew up on a horse farm in rural Kentucky, brings a minimalist, less-is-more approach to her songs, which stand as quietly strong as the natural world she often invokes.
On her fifth, self-titled album, she decamped to Wilco’s Chicago studios, The Loft, to work with producer Jeff Tweedy. On tonight's FUV Live, hear Joan play us a couple of new songs and chat with us a bit about the new album.
