It was during Hanukkah, days before Christmas, and all was cozy in Greenwich Village at The Bitter End for a special FUV Live session with Jeff Tweedy.

The Wilco frontman has a new solo album — a triple album in fact — called Twilight Override. It's an embarrassment of riches with 30 exceptionally good songs (whittled down from enough for five albums, said Jeff).

Tweedy often jokes that his philosophy is to "leave them wanting less" but each song is necessary in this collection, which is loosely based on themes of past, present and future. The songs are poignant vignettes about reclaiming hope in the face of darkness. Twilight Override is also a kind of moodscape that beautifully blends together, like a series of small journeys, starting with the rolling opener, "One Tiny Flower."

The surreal, spoken-word "Parking Lot" finds a cinematic twin with Spike Jonze's film "Being John Malkovich," while Tweedy's "Forever Ends" finds its narrator dumped onto the side of the road in a broken-down car on "Forever Ends." The delightful "Lou Reed Was My Babysitter" is a funhouse of a song.

Tweedy's masterful songwriting is all over this album – not surprising from omeone who has literally written a book about it, How to Write One Song.

During my interview with Tweedy, we chatted about his theory that creativity eats darkness. We also get into musical inspirations like The Clash's Sandinista! and revisit the age-old debate of the Beatles versus the Stones. Jeff also lovingly speaks about working with his family band on this new record — and his two sons, Sammy and Spencer Tweedy, joined him onstage for some phenomenal performances from the new album, including "Feel Free," "Enough," and "Lou Reed Was My Babysitter."
