Frontman Zee Desmondes and producer and multi-instrumentalist Teddy Powell started The Jack Moves back in 2012. This powerhouse duo from Newark, New Jersey creates a sweet soul mix of funk, R&B and hip hop.
The Jack Moves caught my attention back in 2022 when they released their album, Cruiserweight, which I had on repeat. It was one of my favorite records of the year. I went back and listened to the rest of their catalogue and was equally impressed with their other two records, Free Money and their self titled debut.
I chose them as one of the bands to play at FUV's "NY Slice" showcase earlier this year during NY Music Month and they just killed it with their live show.
Desmondes is just so charismatic and energetic and Powell is the epitome of cool behind the drum kit. This past July they released their new album, Love Machine, and ahead of their late summer and fall tour supporting the album, the pair — joined by bandmates John Nuñez on bass and Mike Clanton on keys — dropped by FUV for a "NY Slice Session." They brought their smooth vibes to two tracks: "Candyland" and "Miss You."
