The rangy, emotive music of North Carolina's M.C. Taylor, who records as Hiss Golden Messenger, strikes a decidedly inward-looking vibe with his latest album, I'm People, one of wistful retrospection and future contemplation of roads ahead.

As personal as this new album might be, recorded in upstate New York with Josh Kaufmann, it turned out to be an all-star roundup of some pretty famous friends featured on the record: Bruce Hornsby, Iron & Wine's Sam Beam, Amy Helm, Marcus King, Sarah Watkins, Dawes's Griff and Taylor Hawkins and more. Songs were written in California, North Carolina, and New Mexico, a traveler's diary, in a sense, of wanderlust and the longing to return home too.

Taylor brought that intimate glow of Hiss Golden Messenger's I'm People to The Sheen Center for a special solo Marquee concert for FUV Live, with a 10-song set plus a medley of "Cardova" "As The Crow Flies" and "Dixie Chicken."
