Hinds: SXSW 2016
Spanish garage rockers Hinds were part of the diverse, international lineup of this year's SXSW Radio Day Stage, powered by VuHaus, on Friday, March 18, broadcasting live from Austin, Texas, on WFUV 90.7FM with a video simulcast on VuHaus.
On Hinds' debut album Leave Me Alone, the Madrid quartet's loose-limbed, hazy pop skitters between lovelorn entreaties ("I'll Be Your Man") and ferocious ripostes ("Garden") with shambolic grace. There's an insouciance to their music that defies predictability: it's the crafty, lo-fi charm of Hinds.
Singers and guitarists Carlotta Cosials and Ana García Perrotte originally began as a duo called Deers, but they eventually shed that name (dodging a legal complaint from Montréal's The Dears) and added bassist Ade Martin and drummer Amber Grimbergen.
Ferociously committed to their DIY aesthetic, they chatted about their band's surprisingly speedy ascent during an FUV Live session earlier this year, and happily ascended to the headliner slot at this year's SXSW Radio Day Stage too, with grit, volume, and charm. Listen and watch below.
