Although a gentle, wry temperament defines Haley Heynderickx and her intuitive songwriting, the Portland, Oregon musician fought hard to record and release her critically-praised 2018 debut album, I Need to Start a Garden.
In fact, the metaphor of a garden perfectly matches Heynderickx's complicated and sometimes frustrating journey to get where she is now — both patience and determination were essential as she got her seedling venture off the ground.
All is in full bloom now. One of the NPR Slingshot artists for 2018, Heynderickx conjured a bit of folk magic when she visited FUV's Studio A this summer to play two lovely songs from I Need to Start a Garden, "Show You a Body" and "No Face."
