Daughter of Swords: 2019
Alexandra Sauser-Monnig might be best known as part of the harmonious trio Mountain Man, with friends Amelia Meath and Molly Erin Sarlé, but Sauser-Monnig has taken a solo route with her new project, Daughter of Swords.
But her debut album as Daughter of Swords, called Dawnbreaker, very much represents the family of musicians and friends that Sauser-Monnig has nurtured since moving to North Carolina from Minnesota. Not only does she work with Meath and Sarlé on the record, but she co-produced Dawnbreaker with Meath's Sylvan Esso partner, Nick Sanborn.
Dawnbreaker is a quiet album about transitions. Sauser-Monnig's lyrics warily anticipate a breakup, but find solace in nature and self-affirmation in major life decisions. It was lovely to chat with her in this FUV Live session about the path that led her to Daughter of Swords, the importance of Mountain Man in her life, and her very special guitar.
