Clearwater Festival Preview

The mighty Hudson River runs 315 miles, from the Adirondacks down to New York City. Its grand beauty has inspired many a poet and a painter. Its near-destruction due to industrial pollution has motivated environmental activism and action to protect and preserve this ecological treasure. None more important, or inspiring, than one folk-singer's visionary decision to "build a boat to save the river" by holding fundraising concerts around the Hudson River Valley. Fortunately, the boat Pete Seeger envisioned as the Hudson Sloop Clearwater did get built, and saving the river is what the non-profit organization Clearwater continues to do to this day.

For over thirty-five years, our Hudson River community has been gathering in Croton Point for the Clearwater Festival, which has grown to the country's largest music and environmental festival, hosting over 100 artists on seven sustainably-powered stages. This year's festival is significant, as it is the first without the physical presence of Pete Seeger and his wife Toshi, but you can be sure, their spirit will be felt and celebrated.

And how exciting that we'll bring that celebration to the airwaves! It is perfect timing that on this significant weekend in Clearwater Festival's history, WFUV's annual coverage is going to be bigger and better than ever before. For the first time, we'll be bringing you the sights, sounds, and spirit of the Clearwater Festival, in our weekend-long live broadcast. Listen locally at 90.7 FM, and worldwide online. The broadcast sets sail at 2pm on Saturday with Dar Williams, and wraps up with Lucinda Williams' set, Sunday evening at 7 (full schedule below). See you at the Rainbow Stage!
