Ciao Malz is the musical project of the Connecticut-raised, Brooklyn-based Malia DelaCruz. She's a self-taught musician and engineer whose clever indie pop songs, including "Two Feet Tall" and "Gold Rush," have a lo-fi vibe. Her most recent EP is the four-track Safe Then Sorry, released in December of 2024 on the Audio Antihero label.

I first played her on "NY Slice" in 2021 when the Filipino-American musician released her warm and dreamy single "Always Be My Maybe." She's played an array of venues across the city, including Baby's All Right, Bowery Electric, and Pianos —  and it was great to finally welcome this rising star to Studio A for a "NY Slice Session" and the pop quiz.

[Recorded: 1/31/25; Engineered by Jim O'Hara with Olivia Grant; produced by Meghan Suma; videographers: Anna Fahy, Olivia Wahlert, Alena Godas, Louisa Schramm and Cate Dalton.]
