Cavalcade for July 5

"Cavalcade" at 4 p.m. winds down the America 250 weekend of celebration with a couple of special hours.
After an opening set of American-themed songs and topical new ones by Red Clay Strays and Billy Strings, I'll celebrate with two throwbacks: the Bicentennial summer of 1976 and the revolutionary pop music year of 1966 — when the British were coming!
In the 5 p.m. hour, noted Beatles archivist and multimedia showman Scott Freiman brings his "Deconstructing Revolver" deep dive into rare recordings and storytelling to the table. We mix and match the classic LP's pivotal songs with American responses and influences (think Dylan, Motown, folk-rock, and yes, The Rolling Stones).
At 6 p.m., the customary "Cavalcade" Golden Anniversary Crate Dig shelves the albums this time for a special rummage through the concert ticket stubs of July 1976. From Elvis to KISS, Bruce to Elton, arenas rocked with the pinnacle of stadium-filling superstar shows.
In New York, Talking Heads were holed up at CBGB's and Jefferson Starship landed right in the middle of Central Park — and there are front row seats for you, for all of those.
That's "Cavalcade," Sundays from 4-7 p.m. on 90.7FM, streaming on line, and in the Archives after broadcast.
