On a recent "Cavalcade," I welcomed legendary producer and author Joe Boyd for conversation and a retrospective of his truly historic roster of recordings, including Pink Floyd's first single, 10,000 Maniacs' major label debut, and the folk-rock of Nick Drake and Fairport Convention. Add to that the reggae of Toots and the Maytals and a deep connection to world music through Boyd's Hannibal Records label.

Joe has lived the life in progressive music, always putting heart-before-chart in his choices and sensibilities. That said, he's enjoyed one-off  '70s chart toppers like Eric Weissberg's "Dueling Banjos" and Maria Muldaur's "Midnight at the Oasis,' along with producing songwriter-rich ensembles like Kate and Anna McGarrigle, Richard and Linda Thompson, and R.E.M.'s pivotal 1985 album, Fables of the Reconstruction.

Joe joined me for relaxed recollections and plenty of music from his incredible catalog. Joe's new book, And the Roots of Rhythm Remain: A Journey Through Global Music is a massive and scholarly volume that reflects his sensibilities and deep knowledge.
