Thurston Moore joins "Cavalcade" in the 9 p.m. hour for a broad-ranging conversation about music and life on the alternative side. The Sonic Youth cornerstone has been dabbling in long-form instrumental music lately, and you can see his current Thurston Moore Group perform at Le Poisson Rouge on December 5.

Thurston reminisces about New York in the proto-punk ’70s, in Basquiat’s downtown ‘80s, and the music branding of the Alternative '90s. He considers where it’s all led us, in an age where multiple forms that upended each other now form a mosaic, spread across a digital spectrum unimaginable in those early low-rent, Lower East Side days.

He's also got some neat feathers in his cap: performance of his experimental guitar music at London’s Barbican, collaborating with ex-wife and Sonic Youth member Kim Gordon on an album with Yoko Ono, and especially running with the CBGB’s first-generation pack of Patti Smith and Talking Heads.

"Cavalcade," on Sunday evenings from 8-11 p.m. is a perfect time for a guest like Thurston with arty-convo and music to match. Listen on 90.7, streaming, or on demand in the Weekend Archives.
