Cavalcade for April 19

On a "Cavalcade" spring Sunday, unexpected music things are poking up like the "spring ephemerals" — woodland plants like anemone, trillium, and ramps (great indie band names, by the way) that will be gone in a whiff.
For instance, Maya Hawke gives a new postmodern treatment of a Carly Simon song of soccer-mom angst from long ago. Opera legend Renée Fleming goes Americana roots on a new album, The Fiddle and the Drum, a collaboration with Béla Fleck, and they bring Dolly Parton on board for a take on a traditional Appalachian song.
Melissa Etheridge, Ben Harper, The Lemon Twigs, Chris Stamey, Mike Campbell, and Nation of Language, all check in with new songs that are quick hits in this moment.
And as usual, I will endeavor to relate all of this to The Beatles, Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, and Bruce Springsteen, whenever and wherever possible.
That's "Cavalcade," Sundays from 4-7 p.m., in a nutshell on 90.7FM, streaming online and in the Archives after broadcast.
