Linda and Teddy Thompson: Cavalcade Session 2024
"Cavalcade" welcomed Linda and Teddy Thompson to Studio A to celebrate the acclaimed new album Proxy Music.
Although Linda's speaking voice is now reduced to a whisper, due to a rare condition that forced her to retire from performing her songs, she has not stopped writing them. She speaks candidly about that reality, and her inspirations for the fine new set that invites artists like Rufus and Martha Wainwright, John Grant, plus her ex-husband Richard Thompson and son Teddy, to flesh them out for her.
Teddy does just that in three intimate live takes, and we sampled the others from the wonderful new LP that has Linda posing in a clever spoof of Roxy Music's debut album cover.
The Thompsons are one of the great music families and through their ups and downs, the gift of their talent has bound them and enriched us. It was an honor to welcome Linda and Teddy to WFUV, where I first cued up Shoot Out The Lights when it was new, as a college student a lifetime ago. That they have been a constant in FUV's mix is a testament to both entities.
