Billy Allen + The Pollies have been on the Alabama music scene for a while, but for the first time, they’ve joined forces and recorded a whole album together, the forthcoming Black Noise.

The band's tastes are not defined by any one genre, and Black Noise gets all funked and folk-ed up, soul-and-rocked — and delivers gospel too, exemplified by the three songs that the band played for FUV in Studio A: "All of Me," "Lady Luck," and "I Thought You Wanted Him."

I also chatted with Allen (who began singing in church when he was just three years old) and The Pollies' founder Jay Burgess about their serendipitous meeting (Burgess spotted Billy at a bar), their connection at the legendary FAME Studios, and the recording of Black Noise.

FUV is also very pleased to welcome Billy Allen + The Pollies as part of WFUV's 2024 High Line Bash, our annual benefit, on May 3.
