We first met L.A.-via-Michigan artist Garrett Borns, who records at BØRNS, in March of this year at SXSW where he impressed us with his pure and clear voice that effortlessly climbs octaves. The stripped-back performances of songs off his sparkling, ethereal debut EP, Candy, were a highlight from our video sessions there, so we couldn’t wait to welcome BØRNS to Studio A for the first time, this time with a full band.

It’s been a busy year for Borns. He took on the most extensive tour schedule he’s ever had while simultaneously writing and recording his full length debut, Dopamine, out this Friday. He also treated us to a live preview of a song from the new album, which you can hear in this episode of FUV Live, as well as a favorite from the past year.

In addition, Borns shares stories of growing up on the shores of Lake Michigan, his path to music through a childhood of visual art, and how he cut his performing teeth as “Garrett The Great."
