You may have heard Andra Day's song "Rise Up" in a recent commercial featuring Serena Williams during the U.S. Open, or maybe you’ve heard the singer's contribution to the recent Nina Simone tribute album, or even caught her performance in the 2015 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade. Day’s star is rising, thanks to Stevie Wonder and his ex-wife Kai Millard, who happened to hear Day singing in her hometown, outside a San Diego strip mall. They recognized a talent that deserved to be discovered and needed to be heard.

On the day she stopped by Studio A, Day had just traveled here from Washington, D.C., where she had performed for President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. For this young woman who began singing in church as a child, and studied musical theater and jazz performance as a teen, doors are rapidly opening.

During this episode of FUV Live, we’ll hear the voice that captured Stevie Wonder’s attention, and the amazing story of the many influential people who have become Day's fans, supporters and collaborators (including Stevie Wonder, himself, and Raphael Saadiq). On the heels of releasing her Warner Brothers debut, Cheers To The Fall, join us as we get to know Andra Day.
