Anaïs & The Hoops, the project of the Brooklyn-based, San Diego-raised singer and songwriter Anaïs Lund, makes jazzy indie-pop music that goes down smoothly.
Lund has a sweet, inviting voice, musically and lyrically, captured on singles like "Blue." I first featured her intoxicating "Fool For You" on "NY Slice" back in February and in September of this year, Lund released her debut EP, Growing Pains.
All six songs are a document of a specific time in her life when she was figuring out the type of artist — and person — that she wanted to be. Growing Pains is an beautiful, honest collection of songs, made with the support of producer Ben Coleman and Lund's friends and family. Her mother even helped out on one of the tracks, the French language "Passe le temps."
Lund's mom couldn't make it to the session, but luckily Lund's bandmates — guitarist Gavi Kutliroff and bassist Stevie Williams — were there to accompany her during this "NY Slice" session of two songs, "You" and the EP's title track. Anaïs also took the "NY Slice" pop quiz and chatted about her jazz and musical theatre background as well as her love for Amy Winehouse, the Beatles, and a great "bougie" meal.
