WFUV at SXSW: Lissie at Hotel San Jose
Stopping at the Hotel San Jose to do an amped-up set at the free SXSJ (South by San Jose) compound – she had some extra energy to burn after her big set at Stubb’s was cut short the night before – Lissie (@LissieMusic) came by backstage to chat with her WFUV friends. From here she was headed over to play at Perez Hilton’s party, which is doubtless the fewest number of separations we’d ever been from Perez Hilton.
After the breakthrough success of Catching a Tiger in 2010 and the tour that followed, Lissie put out an EP of cool covers (Lady Gaga, Metallica and Nick Cave, among others), took a European victory lap, did some writing there with friends, and is now gearing up for the next big release.
She told us the newest songs were fun to record, because she worked with her full-time band, so it was a smoother process than the others. Look for a 4-song EP in May or June to give you a few good summer songs to tool around listening to, and a full album in September.
Meanwhile, if you see her, say ‘bonjour’ — she’s been studying Rosetta Stone French in her spare time.
Watch: Here’s Lissie’s Hotel San Jose courtyard version of “Shameless,” and from her SXSJ live set, “The Habit” — plus a short interview with FUV Music Director Russ Borris.
