Vin Scelsa Shares A 1998 Interview With Lou Reed On "Idiot's Delight"
Vin Scelsa revists an 1998 interview with Lou Reed, touching on Lou's friendship with Václav Havel, his work with Robert Wilson and more.
Longtime listeners to Vin Scelsa's "Idiot's Delight"® know that Lou Reed was a compañero and friend of the show, visiting many times over the years (the above photo was taken in 2003 when Lou came by Studio V to discuss his Edgar Allan Poe concept album,The Raven).
On tonight's "Idiot's Delight"® at 8, Vin pays homage to his friend by sharing a vintage "Idiot's Delight"® interview with Lou dating from November 29, 1998, a conversation which hasn't been aired since it was first broadcast on WNEW-FM almost 15 years ago.
"Lou just dropped by to chat," writes Vin. "It is a casual, warm and humorous visit in which he talks about his relationship with the Czech Republic poet/president Václav Havel and describes his appearance, a few months earlier, at the White House dinner President Clinton held to honor President Havel. Lou played the event at Havel's request. For this interview, Lou brought along recordings of three live performances from that event, including a beautiful, rarely-heard song written for his theatrical project Time Rocker, a collaboration with Robert Wilson, called 'Turning Time Around.' Lou also played a couple other unreleased live recordings, one a bootleg from a circa 1973-74 club date of a never-released early song. And we came close to identifying the saxophone player on 'Walk On The Wild Side' who, sadly, remains lost in session-player obscurity."
