Banjo maestro Tony Trischka returned to WFUV for a "Sunday Supper" session in Studio A.

Backed by some of Brooklyn's finest (Michael Daves on guitar, Jared Engel on bass, and Jacob Jolliff on mandolin), Tony discussed the legacy of his idol Earl Scruggs and performed two selections from his Earl Jam album.

Our extensive conversation also included Tony's memories of his student Béla Fleck as a teenage prodigy, his work as a Grammy-winning producer for Steve Martin, the explosion of young talent like Billy Strings and Molly Tuttle, and the experience of having Paul McCartney in the studio.

Having Tony in the studio is in itself always a treat.
