The Revivalists: Rockwood Music Hall 2023
The Revivalists are from New Orleans but that doesn’t mean their connections to New York don’t run deep, they do.
Guitarist Zack Feinberg grew up in Pleasantville, hanging in the city whenever he could and yup, listening to WFUV! When it came time to go to college, he selected Tulane University largely on its location in New Orleans where he could immerse himself in the city's rich musical tradition and numerous live music venues. He did exactly that and in short order he ran into vocalist and guitarist David Shaw forming the nucleus of the eight-piece band (that also features New York City native Ed Williams on guitar and pedal steel who was on the road with Gov’t Mule earlier this year).
Shaw and Feinberg have a long history of playing duo shows and it was in that intimate configuration that FUV's Marquee Members heard The Revivalists at Rockwood Music Hall.
During a brief chat prior to the performance, Shaw revealed that the title of the new album, Pour It Out Into the Night, occurred to him when he was dealing with the challenges presented during the pandemic. He said that when he felt bottled up, he would sometimes grab his guitar and express his feelings and passion with an audience of only the moon and stars. Songs from the recently released Pour It Out Into the Night, including "Kid" and "Down in the Dirt," are featured in this stirring set.
