Elvis Presley on The Ed Sullivan Show September 9, 1956 (Sofa Entertainment)

Today is the 70th anniversary of Elvis Presley making his first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show. Approximately 60 million people tuned in, setting a record for the number of viewers and the share of the TV audience at the time. Tell us about a time you first saw an artist or band perform on television (Read that sentence again.) It doesn't matter if it was their TV debut, but it must have been a performance (not just a video). We'll spin a set.

Hear your requests weekdays after 9 a.m.
Today's set:

  • Devo "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" (Saturday Night Live, 1978)
  • Rickie Lee Jones "Coolsville" (Saturday Night Live, 1979)
  • The Spinners "The Rubberband Man" (The Mike Douglas Show, 1976)
  • The Who "My Generation" (The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, 1967)
