Every couple of years Susan Werner visits WFUV with a new — and totally different — project under her belt. She's done the conventional singer-songwriter album, an album of original songs styled after standards, an "agnostic gospel" album, a collection of covers with chamber quartet arrangements, and a salute to American farmers, among others. Recently she returned — for a record sixth time on my show — on the release of her new EP, An American in Havana, inspired by her travels to Cuba.

Susan described her transformative trips there as she soaked up Cuban music and culture, then found expression in her own songs. She performed a couple and also updated us on the status of the Broadway-bound musical version of "Bull Durham," for which she's been writing the music. It's always a treat to welcome back this inimitable artist.
