After almost 30 years, the on-air chapter of "Sunday Supper" is coming to a close this afternoon at 4 p.m. I'm stepping away from doing a weekly two-hour show, and judging from the work it took me to do this episode, I think it's best that I let the show go. In my year-long absence, my thanks to Rich McLaughlin and Emma Philippas for keeping the "Sunday Supper" fires burning.

I've heard from a lot of friends and listeners over the past few days and I'm blown away by the sincerity of your messages, whether it's from a singer-songwriter, a fellow DJ, or just a music lover. I cherish them all! But even though "Sunday Supper" is ending, I look forward to a new monthly feature on WFUV's website starting in March where I'll write about the singer-songwriters that I love. And I'll continue to be involved with the music scene, whether it's On Your Radar on the second Tuesday of the month at The Bitter End, regular shows from the Hard Luck Cafe in Huntington or the Landmark on Main Street in Port Washington. Wherever there's a great folk gathering— I'll be there. And you can keep up with me via the New Folk Initiative.

Today's show, produced with my pal and longtime collaborator Jeremy Rainer, will feature many of my favorite artists, including recent Grammy winners I'm With Her, Mavis Staples, and Jon Batiste as well as "Sunday Supper" regulars Brandi Carlile, Nina Simone, Stevie Wonder, Warren Zevon, Bruce Springsteen, and The Milk Carton Kids.

My deepest thanks to everyone who has spent Sunday afternoon (and prior to that, Sunday morning) with me on both "Sunday Supper" and "Sunday Breakfast." And above all, my thanks to the songwriters: your music always inspires me. It's been a great ride!

If you miss today's "Sunday Supper," you can catch it for two weeks in the Archives at WFUV.org.
