Shocking Blue for May 30
Each week "Shocking Blue" is shaped by several factors, including the current events affecting all of us as well as cultural ones I’ve experienced personally.
Two that recently impacted music lovers were the passing of the "Saxophone Colossus" Sonny Rollins and also Rob Base who was part of a pair, along with DJ E-Z Rock, that gave us the huge dancefloor hit "It Takes Two." I’ll be playing both of them.
On the new tip, I’m excited to play Georgia's soul and gospel artist Brother Wallace, Manchester’s The Durutti Column is back with the first album in fifteen years and Tricky just announced tour dates. Make sure you’re free on October 11 if you’re a fan.
And there’s an unofficial feature: As I walk the streets of NYC, hurry along on the subway, or mosey in a shop, there’s often music stopping me in my tracks — and sometimes making me late — because I’m held captive by a song. I have one or two of those as well on tonight's "Shocking Blue."
That's "Shocking Blue," Saturdays 8-11pm, on 90.7FM, streaming online, and in the Archives after broadcast.
