Summer. It bursts forth every year and never fails to bring that feeling of complete abandon.

Here on the East Coast, the four seasons each have magical aspects — yes, even winter. Cynics among us would offer there are twelve seasons (third winter, the "pollening," and Hell’s front porch, etc).

But summer commands attention, like the lead singer of a band, with its intoxicating sunsets, velvety nights, and feeling the warmth of the sun on bare skin.

In that spirit, tonight's "Shocking Blue" celebrates the eve of summer 2026. I’ll also be playing Abdullah Ibrahim and James Blood Ulmer, both giants in the jazz world who passed this month.

Also a birthday acknowledgment for Suicide’s Alan Vega, and new music from The Watergirls, a one-off project celebrating Glasgow DJ JD Twitch, as well as Ibrahim Alfa Jnr and Sondre Lerche

Join me for some Saturday night sensation on "Shocking Blue," Saturdays 8-11p.m. on 90.7FM, streaming online, and in the Archives after broadcast.
