Shannon McNally, who's been living in the Deep South for many years, has roots on Long Island. She's just released a new album, Black Irish, with deep roots, both musical and personal.

Producer Rodney Crowell helped her draw on the changes in her life (including divorce, the birth of her child, and the death of her mother) for the original songs and helped her collect a wide range of covers (including songs by Stevie Wonder, J.J. Cale, and Muddy Waters).

Shannon returned to WFUV to share her creative process and a couple of songs from the album for this "Sunday Supper" session.
