Robert Ellis: 2016
Originally from Houston, Robert Ellis writes in the style of classic Texas songwriters like Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark. Having just released his self-titled fourth album, Ellis is making a clear case that his name belongs in that company.
While those roots may be in country, this new album branches out with elements of rock and groove woven around some incredibly vivid lyrics. The characters in these songs are people you know; they may have even been you at some point in your life. I talked with Robert about the new album, his songwriting process and life on the road.
Listen in for that conversation and great live versions of “California” and “Couples Skate.”
