Question of the Day: Funk

by Corny O'Connell | 09/10/2015 | 6:24am

"FUNK"

Today is the birthdate of Isaac Funk who with Adam Wagnalls gave us Funk & Wagnalls dictionary and encyclopedia. Tragically Funk died in 1912, well before he could get down to the music that would bear his name. By way of historical revisionism, we honor the man (who never went to Funkytown) with your requests.

While you're here, get your tickets for WFUV's Funk 'n' Soul Dance Party, Saturday October 3 at Webster Hall.

Here's what we played after 9am:

The Meters "Cissy Strut"

Sly & the Family Stone "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)"

Rick James "Give It to Me Baby"

Wild Cherry "Play that Funky Music"

APB "Shoot You Down"
