Paul Cavalconte's Cavalcade For June 13

The Shape Of Jazz To Come. The guy who came up with that record album was not shy. He intended to turn the established order upside down. As of Ornette Coleman's death on Thursday at age 85, that half-century old upset still stands. The New York Times called him a "composer who re-wrote the language of jazz."

A little bit of Ornette goes a long way, and I'll use a track from that iconic 1959 Atlantic Records album to spark a conversation about jazz adventure. But mostly, we'll rock, with new music by Vancouver indie band Destroyer, Nashville's Kopecky, and even a fresh tune by ye olde Toad The Wet Sprocket.

The "Cavalcade" rolls on the last weekend of spring from 8-10p.m. EDT. You can stream it on demand in the WFUV archives up to two weeks after broadcast.
