After recording with a whole new set of musicians on the critically-acclaimed album Away, Will Sheff of Okkervil River was reenergized. He asked those musicians to permanently become members of the new Okkervil River and they toured extensively.

Now that band is back with a new set of songs, called In the Rainbow Rain. The album represents some more territory for Sheff as he wrote with the other members of his band for the first time. I talked with Sheff about that change, the band’s evolution over the last few years, where he’s at now, and lots more.

Listen in to that conversation and watch great live versions of “Don’t Move Back to LA,” “Pulled Up the Ribbon,” and the album standout, “Famous Tracheotomies.”
