NJ Governor Receives Poor Grade on Environmental Report Card

Governor Christie criticized for performance on environmental issues.
The New Jersey Environmental Federation gave Governor Christie a "D" on his environmental report card because they say he's not doing enough to protect the environment.

Campaign Director David Pringle says Christie's main failures have been weakening protection for clean water and failure to act on climate change. Pringle also says Christie has not lived up to campaign promises.

“He made strong commitments during the campaign that climate change is real and he would take very aggressive action,” Pringle says, “Christie not only hasn't take that aggressive action, he's weakened the effort that was done under his predecessor.”

But press director for the state's department of environmental protection Larry Ragonese says the grade's not fair.

“It's kind of ludicrous that a governor that has a positive record of environmental accomplishments, with a very clear record would get such a mark. So it's not fair.”

Still, Director of the NJ Sierra Club Jeff Tittel says a passing grade is too lenient.

“We’ve seen probably the worst governor when it comes to the environment in state history in Chris Christie.”
