New York Officials Voice Opposition to Federal Cuts in Anti-terrorism Funding
The federal government has proposed cutting New York City's anti-terrorism funds from $180 million to $90 million. But Senator Chuck Schumer doesn't think the time is right to de-fund operations that keep Americans safe.
"At the very time when our security concerns have increased because of ISIS and lone wolves, we're cutting the funds? It makes no sense," Schumer says.
And Police Commissioner Bratton agrees. He warns such a drastic cut could be disastrous. "A $90 million cut is unconscionable, and I'm just speaking about New York City," he says
That's because New York isn't alone, as the proposed cuts would affect national funding on a similar scale.
