New Electric Vehicles Coming to New York City
New York City makes new efforts to increase electric car use
As part of a clean air initiative, New York City is boosting its efforts to enhance the number of electric cars on the streets. Mayor Bloomberg announced Tuesday plans to add 70 new electric-powered vehicles to the city's electric fleet.
He says the additional cars wll not only boost the city's fleet by nearly 20%, but will also provide environment-friendly transportation for police, firefighters, and taxi drivers.
"One of the things we're doing is reducing our energy dependence and saving money for taxpayers," he elaborated. Bloomberg said electric cars could save as much as $4,000 of gas in their lifetime, which equates to about $15,000 for taxpayers.
