New Dishes and Flavors Could Soon Be Spicing Up City Parks
The Parks Department seeks to replace standard park fare with exotic street treats.
Dirty water hot dogs and soft pretzels could soon become a thing of the past in New York City parks.
The Parks Department is proposing to replace typical cart food with a variety of high-quality ethnic foods.
Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe says the proposal would help to enhance the park visiting experience by bringing the interesting food available on streets around the city into the parks themselves.
The commissioner said a study conducted by the Boston Consulting Group found that people who go into parks are generally looking for healthier and better quality food options. Benepe said the parks department has requested proposals for high-quality, affordable food options from potential vendors for locations in forty-four different parks throughout the city.
