Never Forget: 9/11 Memorials

Events are planned in and around New York City.

 

Here's a list of events to mark the 11th anniversary of the September 11th attacks:

 

In New York City
 
Official WTC Site Memorial and Remembrance
When: Tuesday, 8:40AM-12:30PM
Where: Zuccotti Park
As per tradition, 4 moments of silence will be observed (one for when each plane hit, and one for when each tower fell). 
 
Tribute in Light
When: Tuesday at sunset until dawn on Wednesday
Where: West and Morris Streets 
The annual illuminated tribute will feature 44 7,000 watt xenon light bulbs reaching 4 miles into the sky and visible from 30 miles away. 
 
St. Paul's Commemorates the Anniversary of 9/11
When: Tuesday, 8:46AM
Where: St. Paul's Chapel (Broadway at Fulton Street)
The Bell of Hope will ring at 8:46AM, the time when the first plane crashed. At 12:30PM Rev. Emily Bloemaker will preside over a prayer service.
 
 
 
Outside the City
 
Rockland County Memorial Ceremony
When: Tuesday, 8:30 AM
Where: Haverstraw Bay County Park
The park will be open from dawn to dusk for residents to visit the memorial.
 
Westchester County Candlelight Ceremony
When: Tuesday, 7PM
Where: Kensico Plaza in Valhalla
County Executive Robert P. Astorino, elected officials, and family members of Westchester residents who died in the WTC are expected to attend this ceremony at The Rising, the county's 9/11 memorial.
 
Yonkers Memorial Service
When: Tuesday, 7:30PM
Where: Conor Park
At this service, the city will dedicate a monument in Conor Park made from a 38 foot, 4,000 ton steel beam from the WTC.
 
Connecticut Memorial Service
When: Monday, 5:30PM
Where: Sherwood Island State Park, Westport
Governor Malloy will attend this memorial service where the names of the 153 victims with state ties will be read aloud.
