Neko Case - Solid Sound Festival - 2013

Hear Neko Case's live set from the Solid Sound Festival this weekend

Neko Case live at Solid Sound Festival 2013

As much an interpretive performer as a songwriter, Neko Case (@NekoCase) has a reputation for being a dark but brazen carrier of a tremendous voice and crush-worthy beauty.

We first heard her power-pop vocals as part of The New Pornographers, which she slid into as an "honourary Canadian" after getting her art degree in Vancouver. The country-noir singer and multi-instrumentalist moved from there to Tacoma, then Chicago, then Vermont, and along the way built a solid solo career that first truly bloomed in 2006 with Fox Confessor Brings the Flood.

Middle Cyclone from 2009 made it to #3 on the US chart, even while she spent more time recording and touring with the Pornographers. And in this Solid Sound performance she premiered a few songs from her upcoming release, The Worse Things Get, The Harder I Fight, The Harder I Fight, The More I Love You, which features guitar work from M. Ward.

Neko didn't have to travel far from her home in Vermont to get to Solid Sound for her set, right before Wilco on the big stage at Joe's Field. She did bring her dog Liza along for company, though.

Funding for WFUV's ongoing coverage of live concerts and festivals comes from The Agnes Varis Trust, supporting affordable access to the arts, education and healthcare.
